Pollination

Let me start this post by saying what a long day today was at school. Not hard, or stressful... just long. I am feeling great with the pregnancy, but I think that the combination of it being the Friday of a short week at school and, I'm assuming a full moon, has lead to a breakdown in our students' normal behavior! After saying all of this, I had a student today who made me smile more than I have at least this week.

After school, I have afternoon duty in the hallways where I "keep the kids quiet and on task"....like that is even possible on a Friday afternoon with 5-10 year olds! Anyway, I'm talking to a co-worker who's son happens to be in kindergarten this year at Cooper. He is the most adorable kid I've ever seen! Cute brown bowl haircut, quiet...and a large vocabulary! He had apparently gone home to tell his Mom that I have "been pollinated!" I promised her that I did not say anything like that in class! She assured me that that was just his way of explaining the fact that I was going to have a baby. Who would have ever explained it that way??!! Only a 5 year old! It just made my day!

Getting Ready...

As we near the end of the pregnancy, we are starting to get the baby room ready, and get ourselves ready! It is crazy to think that we will have someone else depending completely on us for everything in his life. I have been "nesting" already, and Chris and I are trying to go through the entire house and clear the clutter before Even arrives. It is such a chore, but satisfying at the same time. I feel crazy sometimes with the urge to throw everything out of the house! I guess that is just part of getting myself prepared for what is to come.

Evan's 1st Ultrasound

Walking into the Dr.'s office for our first ultrasound was quite exciting! We didn't really know what to expect; would he (we didn't know he was a he at this point!) have all of his arms and legs, fingers and toes? Was there something really in there, or was it all a mistake?! We were both so excited to see our baby for the first time, that we couldn't stop staring at the screen! Now, we are 25 weeks pregnant and we get another sonogram in 3 weeks. We can't wait to see our son again!

Chris, guess what?!

After finding out that we were going to have a baby, I decided to wait to tell Chris until I could think of the perfect way for him to find out. We had already planned a trip to Dallas that weekend to go to Six Flags with a friend from work, so we hatched a plan to tell Chris at the park. It was sooo very hard to keep it a secret because I had already known for 2 full days! I woke up thinking that the whole world knew that we were pregnant!

When we finally made it to Six Flags, I waited until we were on our first...yes, you're thinking correctly...roller coaster! As the coaster started rolling forward and we were headed up to the first drop, I turned to Chris and said, "Do you think the baby will like the ride?!" He looked at me and denied that it could be possible about 4 times! Finally, as we neared the top, he looked at me and said, "we're really pregnant?!" I shook my head yes just as we headed over the top of the roller coaster! He said that it was the coolest way to tell him because he was able to cry throughout the whole ride, and then dry his eyes as we got off the ride. If you even look closely at the picture, you can see him crying! He is such a wonderful husband, and I am the luckiest girl in the world to have him in my life! It is exciting to hear him talk about our future together as a family. As exciting as it was to tell him about our baby in this way, I can't wait for the exciting future that God has in store for our family!

We're Pregnant!

We're pregnant! After 3 1/2 years of marriage, we are going to welcome our son, Evan Christopher Gonzales, into the world! He will arrive sometime around May 4, 2008; just in time for summer vacation!

I found out that I was pregnant on the 3rd day of school this past August. I walked into the school, ready to teach, and I ran into a friend who I happened to tell that I was one day late (she knew that we had been trying). She said, "No problem! I can have my husband bring a test up at lunch time!" So, I went through the day, just as I normally would, not really even thinking about what might happen if I really was pregnant. Then at lunch, I took the test.....and about a minute later, found out that it was no longer a joke! Needless to say, I was overjoyed! I didn't think that it would really happen to us yet. My husband and I still feel like kids ourselves, so it is still hard to believe that we are going to be parents! Aaagghh!
