No, I'm A Big Boy

A conversation I overheard between Kaytlynn and Evan this morning...

Kaytlynn: "I need to brush your hair, Evan."
Evan: "No, that's for babies." (it is Aubrie's hairbrush).
Kaytlynn: "But you are a baby..."
Evan: "No, I'm a big boy."

He's right, he's not a baby anymore; and now he knows it!

Guess Who?

(you can barely make out where the teeth have broken through)

Someone in the household is now teething 6 teeth at once! Aubrie is such a happy baby, and I couldn't believe it when I felt 6 tooth buds in her mouth the other day! I noticed the bottom two cutting through this morning, so I think she'll start getting a little bit more cranky until they pop through. The 4 on top that are coming through are still only swollen, but I assume they'll come in during the next couple of weeks.
(you can kind of see the little swollen spots on top when she smiles)

I can't believe she's already getting teeth! Evan didn't get his first tooth until he was 10 months old, so I guess I just assumed Aubrie would get teeth around the same time. She's too little in my mind to be getting teeth! I mean, she's only 6 months old! I'm not ready for her start growing up.

My Day So Far...

After an interesting night with Aubrie, I was ready for anything to happen today. So far, it has been a great day, just a busy one. Evan is now hopped up on Tylenol, and much happier, which is nice (he's teething his final 2 molars). It has just been one thing after another, so I have stayed busy today.

Example: Kaytlynn and Delaney show up around 8. Then Evan wakes up. Then they're hungry so I make pancakes. Then Aubrie wakes up so we all head upstairs. While I feed Aubrie, the kids play in Evan's room. Then we all stay upstairs while I work on laundry. Then they Evan wants to go downstairs, but the girls want to stay upstairs. So, Evan, Aubrie and I head downstairs, while the girls play upstairs. Then the girls come downstairs and everyone is hungry again. Aubrie has now started crying because it's naptime again. So, I take Aubrie upstairs for her nap, come downstairs to be immediately asked to help find Tomater by Evan. We never find Tomater, but I get him distracted with something else while I get lunch ready. So, the kids are finally all sitting in one room, eating lunch, and watching Monsters, Inc, and Aubrie is still upstairs asleep. Oh, strike that... I can hear her wiggling as I write...

It has been a fun day, and I love having the girls over a couple of times a week. It is definitely good for Evan to have the girls around. Things really stay busy, though! We haven't gotten to any of the girls' work yet, today, but we'll work on it all when Evan goes down for his nap in a few minutes. No rest for the weary, I guess!

Knock Knock

Who's There?
Banana.
Banana Who?
Banana Bacon!

For those of you out there who are as confused as us with this joke, just know that Evan CRACKED UP when he heard it! One of the girls that I watch during the week told this 'made up' joke today, and Evan thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever heard!! We were all dying laughing because it was so cute to watch him giggle so hard! Now he tells the joke to us, and just laughs and laughs every time. So cute! He even added his own little spin on the joke tonight at dinner. It went like this:

Knock Knock
Who's there?
Hanana (banana).
Banana who?
Hanana in the door!
(giggle giggle giggle squeal giggle tumultuous laughter!).

Steve

...is a bubble. Yes, you read correctly; a bubble. Well, blown up bubbles in general, really. Don't ask me why their name is Steve, or why Evan, who has never wanted to name any of his toys, suddenly decided that his bubbles were named Steve... He kept yelling out "Steve!" as we were outside popping bubbles last night. I asked him where he (a)learned/heard the name Steve, and (b)who Steve was. He answered, "Mie Fowski (Mike Wizowski from Monsters, Inc) said Steve, Mama. Steve is bubble."

Well, that answered my question, I guess! (although I don't remember anyone named Steve in Monsters, Inc... but I could be wrong!).

Getting Ready

We are getting ready for Evan & Aubrie to go to Mother's Day Out in a couple of weeks, and there are a few things that Evan needed for this. He got a new Lightning McQueen backpack so that he could take his lunch kit and sleeping accessories all in one place to "school." I'm a little nervous about the nap situation (even though Evan has always been a great sleeper... in his crib. He'll be in a room with 11 other 2 year olds, and he's never just laid down and taken a nap that's not been in his crib. He can put himself to sleep all by himself every single time no problem when it's quiet and he's in a crib. Maybe it's just when we are around that he won't lay in bed with us (or a bed, period) and go to sleep... I guess we shall see.

To get him ready for this transition, we also bought him a Lightning McQueen sleeping bag for his nap mat. He loves it! I hope it helps to make nap time a fun time at MDO.

Hands

Our conversation on the way home from church tonight went something like this...

Momma: "Evan, what did you do in church tonight?"
Evan: "Umm, Evan play with bulldozers. Evan made picture, and Evan played with blue car and kids."
Momma: "That sounds like fun! I liked your picture. Were those your hands?"
Evan: "No, GOD'S hands, Momma. God's hands on world. God make dee world."
Momma/Daddy: "What else did God make, Evan?"
Evan: "Umm, animals and trees and Evan and Aubrie and Mommy & Daddy and Aubrie and Evan and Daddy and Mommy."
Momma/Daddy: "You're right! And He loves us very much, right?!"
Evan: "Uh-huh."

I love seeing God through Evan's eyes. He was adamant that the hands on his picture were GOD'S hands. I love that he is learning about God and just soaking it all in.

6 Months

Aubrie; just a few minutes old

1.5 days old
I don't want to sound like a broken record, but has it already been 6 months since my little Aubrie was born?! Was it already 6 months ago that we met her for the first time and made our little family a family of 4? Time flies by so fast, and all we can do is go along for the ride and enjoy every moment.
Aubrie has grown up a lot in the last few weeks, as you can see from previous posts. She's now rolling over like a pro, and practicing her sitting skills. I have a feeling that crawling is right around the corner, which blows my mind! She can't be getting ready to crawl yet; she just got here!
One of her favorite things to do is be around people. She really is an even tempered baby, except when she's hungry or tired (and even then, she's consoled pretty easily). She likes to play on her own, but is especially happy when someone picks her up and starts to talk to her. She will talk right back, and loves to touch people's faces. She's got a pretty good grip, too!
She absolutely loves to watch her brother play. It's so cute because as Evan gets older, he remembers Aubrie more and more. He now pretends to talk to her on the little play-phone that we have. He used to talk to Elmo on it, and now he talks to Aubrie; so cute! Aubrie lights up whenever she sees Evan, and I know they will be big buddies one day. Evan gets really excited when he sees her doing something new, like when she rolls over. He thinks it is so neat when she rolls over! He'll even roll over and tell us he's just like Aubrie. I can already tell that there will be some sibling rivalry, though. Evan likes to give Aubrie toys to play with, but it's just a split second that goes by before I hear him say, "No, this Evan's!" It's a work in progress that starts early and will go on for a while, I guess.
I love my family so much, and love to watch the dynamics of it change and grow as my kids grow. I love every stage that they go through, even the trying stages. Aubrie is in the process of getting the two bottom teeth, and she's actually doing pretty good! I'm impressed because she definitely doesn't like any kind of pain. I'm a little nervous... she can tend to be a biter! We gave her a little bit of rice cereal before bedtime a couple of days ago, and she loved it! She was licking the bowl and everything!
She's doing so great with the nursing, and I've had a much easier time of it than when I started with Evan. I'm positive that it has everything to do with the fact that I'm home with her and not working a full-time job. I know I'm a lot less stressed than when I was "working!"
Aubrie is going to be a thinker, too. She LOVES to concentrate on things, and she's very curious about everything. She loves to just stare at couch pillows, blankets, people's faces, toys, etc, and try to touch them as much as possible... all before trying to go in her mouth. Her cute little eyebrows look very concerned when she's concentrating on something; so cute!
We love our little girl, and can't imagine her not being in our lives. We look forward to seeing what/who she will become, and we'll enjoy every minute of it!

More Words

I've been meaning to write these few sayings down for weeks, but keep getting sidetracked.
--------------------------------
"Mommy, Evan picking his nose up." (used to describe, you guessed it, picking his nose. Wonder where he learned that...)

"Let's go see the water mountains, Momma." (water fountains).

"Momma, Evan need put ice cream on bobos." (meaning, ice on bobos).

Me: "Evan, what would you like for breakfast this morning?"
Evan: "Uuummm, candy." (complete with his finger on his chin while thinking).

"Momma, Tomater's eyes looking at Evan..." (he has a Tomater night light, and he thinks that it is staring him down all the time!)

The Blue Man

The things we do as parents... Hopefully my kids will read this one day and really know how much we did for them as children!

Evan was pooping on the potty last night before bedtime, and we hear him yell, "Oh no! The blue man fell in the potty!" The blue man is a small construction worker toy that is maybe an inch and a half tall, and he had fallen into the potty... yes, with the poop.

Chris originally wanted to flush him, but I knew that I'd be the one to deal with it until Evan forgot about the blue man, which could be a while. So, donning a ziplock plastic bag around his hand, Chris dug out the blue man from the toilet... We might never be able to look at that toy the same way again, but he has been thoroughly washed, and will continue to be able to ride on top of Evan's diggers.

Growing Boy

Oh my goodness, I think I know what the saying, "eat me out of house and home," now means! Evan has been asking for food non-stop for like an hour and a half! Just as he finishes a bowl of cereal, he'll ask for something else, etc. And he ate a good breakfast this morning, too! He did jump from the 50% to the 97% mark at his last checkup, so I guess he's going through another growth spurt?! I might need to really reorganize my shopping list and buy more groceries sooner than expected! He really is a growing boy. Goodness gracious!

The Wiggles

Evan absolutely loves The Wiggles, and we were lucky enough to be able to take him to see them in person today! The Wiggles are on tour, and were in town for 2 shows today. Evan really had a great time, even though we sacrificed a good nap time to go to the show. He clapped his hands and jumped up and down a bit, but also spent a fair bit of time just sitting in Chris' lap and watching. Aubrie didn't seem to be tired, though, and jumped on my lap almost the entire show!
We learned that Jeff (the purple Wiggle) is 57 years old, and that they don't smoke BBQ in Australia. It was a great show; the parents weren't bored, and the kids loved it. We had a great time!

2 Years, 3 Months (27 Months)

Aaaannnnddd..... Evan is 2 1/4 years old! Whoa! Another 3 months, and he'll be 2 1/2! He's talking to us in sentences now; starting to add "the," "to," etc, to his sentences. I'm amazed at how many words he knows! I thought about trying to write them all down, but that would literally be impossible, I think.
I was watching some videos of him today, I think taken 6 months ago, and we thought he was so big! Compared to how big he is now, he was still a baby back then! I can't believe how big he really is getting now. I've learned that parenting is all about how you handle each new stage and adapt to what works best for your child as they grow. It's crazy to think about Evan in this new stage, because he really is growing up! I know that sounds crazy, but it seems that they'll always be a baby when they first come into your life, but they eventually do grow up (gasp!). It's been a bit difficult adjusting to this fact for me...
Evan has also really gotten into pretending when he plays. It's so cute, because we pretend that we're eating all kinds of different things, that we are dumping dirt into his dump trucks, that we are going through tunnels, etc. It's neat to see what his imagination thinks of!
 -----------------
 Evan,

Your Dad and I can't believe how big you're getting! You surprise us every day with how attentive you are to what's going on around you. You are the sweetest boy, and we are greatful and thankful to be able to call you our son!

We love you with all our hearts,
 Mama, Daddy, and Aubrie

Aubrie Rolled Over!

Aubrie finally rolled over! Woohoo! She's done it before, but only with us helping her cheat by putting her on her side. But she did it all by herself today! In fact, she didn't want to stay on her back once she got it down and rolled over like 4 times in a row! She would roll over and then give us a big smile, like she knew that she was getting to be a big girl. I probably shouldn't say this, but Chris even cried!

I am trying not to compare Aubrie to Evan and let her do her own thing, but I was starting to wonder when she would roll over. Evan did it when he was like 4 months old, and then was sitting up when he was 5 months old. I am not worried about her at all, I'm just learning that she has a different personality and timeline than Evan. She'll do things when she feels like it, and I just want to enjoy every moment! (This happened July29, 2010).

Aubrie Sits Up!

On Monday, August 2, Aubrie sat up all by herself! We were Skyping with my sister (who is still in Australia), and trying to get Aubrie to roll over. Any other time, she won't stay on her back for 2 seconds and has rolled over as soon as we lay her down. But I guess she was enthralled with Clarie on the computer screen, because she never did roll over for her! However, she did sit up all on her own for the first time! It was so cute! And best of all, Clarie got to witness one of Aubrie's firsts! Our little girl is getting so big!
PS~I think I felt her first 2 teeth buds this morning! She's such a happy baby for possibly teething! (The 2 on the bottom).

My Sweetheart

Today, Evan has said, "Oh, it's so pretty!," while watching Murry ice skate on Sesame Street; also, "Evan need give Aubrie a hug," and "I'm so sorry, tractor. Mommy, Evan stepped on tractor, need give tractor hug. Need put tractor in Daddy's shoe..."

I love my sweetheart!
