Cute Kids

I really am going to miss teaching, although the rewards are tremendous for leaving the profession. However, when the kids are being this cute, I can't help but miss them!

I am showing the classes all of the cool instruments available to them in the 5th grade. The kindergarten class was being so good while I was showing them, that I told them they could talk. While I was walking around and letting them touch the flute, they broke out into a jam session! It started as clapping, then adding a beat with their mouths, and then all out singing together! I ran to get my camera and caught this:

I love that I never had to get onto them. I am just standing there while they have a good time! I love getting to watch them be kids; they want to grow up too fast nowadays.

Future Musician

We've been joking around for a while now about Evan becoming some kind of musician. I mean, he's got long enough fingers to play whatever instrument he wants (or all of them!).
Anyway, this is what he has learned from us this past week:

Spring Break 09

Wow, all I have to say is that the past week was much needed! It was so nice to be able to spend some time at home with the entire family together. Chris and I both needed some time together, as well as getting to spend time with Evan. (Haha, not to mention getting away from the kids at school!).

Let me think...I've already relaxed so much that I've forgotten what we did each day!...

Saturday: We were able to spend some time with Nick & Alia since we couldn't the week before (Alia had a different Spring Break than us). We went to a consignment store and picked out our awesome table (see earlier post for pictures).

Sunday: I was going to get a haircut (which I never did end up getting), but we ended up going out to eat some amazing wings in the Woodlands with Nick & Alia. Chris and I love being with Nick & Alia, it seems like we could never hang out enough! Evan was so good throughout the entire meal...of course I'd be good to if someone were feeding me small pieces of curly fries! (I sound like a terrible Mom, now!)

Monday-Tuesday: (Mon) Chris went to Men's Bible Study at the church. Normally he can't do it because he also drives back to the church Monday nights for Orchestra rehearsal. When we are finally able to sell our house and move closer to the church, that will work out much better! After that, Chris went to get our truck looked at, and it turned out to need a new u-joint (don't ask me what that is!). They also ended up replacing part of the drive-shaft (again, don't ask me) because they broke it as they were fixing the other part. Long story short, our truck got some much needed lovin' this week for a good deal. (Tues) Chris went to lunch at Nit Noi with Nick, Jonathan, and Chuck (both from orchestra). He was supposed to have a softball game later that night, but ended up hanging out with Evan and I for the rest of the night!

Wednesday: We spent much of this day cleaning, but then My Love took me out on a date later that night! Nick & Alia babysat (they ended up taking Evan to church while Alia sang), while Chris and I went to Saltgrass, and then out to see Taken with Liam Neeson (sooooo sad about his wife-we found out on our way home that night after seeing his movie). The movie is a must-see! Then we went back and hung out with N&A for a while. We talked about all kinds of fun stuff, but lots about the baby (can't wait to meet him!!!).

Thursday-Friday: We were able to spend Thursday night at Chris' brother Bobby's apartment. Bobby's girlfriend Allison made some amazing Chicken Tetrazzini stuff (which was amazing!), and our favorite fresh green beans. I am just getting to know Allison, but she is amazing! I'm glad that Bobby found someone as sweet and awesome as her! (Fri) Then we went back and spent the night at Chris' Mom's apartment. On Friday, we could tell that she and Evan were having a blast together! Mama D had Evan out on the grass, watching the kids across the street play basketball, with a butter bucket on his head for a hat! They were out there for hours just playing and being together; it was great to see them together!

Saturday: We drove to Santa Fe Friday night to visit with my Mom over the weekend. We ended up going to a birthday party for my friend Kari's little boy named CJ; he turned 4 and had a Transformer party. Haha, we actually missed the party because Evan was sleeping, but went afterwards and hung out with Kari and her family and had a blast. There was a moonwalk at the party, and Chris decided to take Evan in and see if he liked it...We'll just say that we will NOT order a moonwalk at any of Evan future parties! The poor baby just clung to us while we were in there!
Sunday: We celebrated my cousin Alex's son's 1st birthday party, as well as my Grandmother's 84th birthday. It was so cute watching him dig into that cupcake and get icing all over himself! Evan soon followed suit by grabbing cake off of my Dad's plate and smashing it right into his own face! He's never had that much sugar before (thanks so much Dad...!) and stayed awake almost 2 hours longer than he should have! The poor baby just crashed when we got back to our house in Spring.

Overall, it was a wonderfully relaxing Spring Break. We weren't ready to go back to work today! I know I wrote a lot above, but I like being able to remember what we did over these holidays; so thanks for bearing with me and reading all the way to the end!

I hope that everyone else who was on Spring Break had a great time. I hope that it was as relaxing as you needed it to be! Back to grind now, but with only 10 weeks of school left! Yeehaw!!!!!!

Cutest Baby

Ok, so I just uploaded a photo of Evan in the "hopes" of winning $2500 for a cutest baby contest... It is just for fun, but it sure doesn't hurt to try and win! Whichever photo receives the most votes will win!

The Inspiration

Chris says his inspiration for the 'stache' is Chuck Norris...or Magnum PI...
You decide!

Chuck Norris, right?!

All of a sudden, it seems like our Little Man is growing up and developing his personality. He is doing all sorts of new things; every hour it seems to be something new! It is amazing to watch him copy us...even when we didn't realize that he was paying attention...

As a small baby, I used to play with this pretend phone and put it on Evan's ear. He would always listen for a second, and after hearing nothing but Mommy's voice, take it off his ear and put it in his mouth. But after feeding him yesterday, he put the phone up to his ear and just like I used to do for him! It was so cute! It's cool but weird to see him acting as his own person, and to see him trying to do the things that we do.

_____________

Last night Chris and I decided to rent some movies, which we never do (you know, Dave Ramsey...saving money, etc). Well, that is just plain boring sometimes, and we are on Spring Break! We've seen all of our own movies like a million times, so we decided to splurge a bit on ourselves.

This is what Evan does while watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...

PS~Evan now has 2 teeth! At least the tops of teeth. 2 days ago we noticed the front bottom tooth on the right, and today he has the beginning of the tooth next to it on the left. I bought these awesome foam bath letters at the JBF sale last week, and Evan loves to chew on them! They haven't even made it to the bath yet because he's chewing on them during the day.
Love that Little Man!

St. Patrick's Day

Here is a picture of Evan wearing green for his first St. Patrick's Day! Ok, it's bugs and not shamrocks, but my baby won't be pinched today!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

Our New Table

I love my sister-in-law for many reasons; she's funny, sweet, smart, gorgeous, a spiritual advisor to me, and a great cook...but she also has great style! She was on Spring Break last week (which we missed having with her by one week) and she found an amazing table at a consignment store on 1960.

For those of you who don't know, we actually don't have a dining table. We were using one that my Dad had let us borrow in college (yes, most of our furniture is actually still from college, but we're working on it slowly). We didn't have a great place to put our piano, so we gave the table back to my Mom, and have since been eating on our coffee table (even with guests over!).
Thank you, Alia, for taking us to look at our awesome new table! We LOVE it! It is so nice to have an actual place to eat our food!

(PS~It comes with 6 chairs!)

1-800-SKYDIVE

My sister and Chris went skydiving this morning! We just made it home from the big event, after which we went to eat at Joe's BBQ in Alvin. It was amazing (and all I did was watch!).

Here are some pics of the event:

(Chris said he was worried about "male spoonage"...
I don't see the need for them to take this pic, though!)

We're having a nephew!

Today Nick and Alia went to the doctor to see what their baby was...and it's a boy! I think that Alia knew the whole time, and Nick was just hoping, and now they know for sure!

After church orchestra practice tonight, we went over to their house to view the ultrasound on DVD. I must say here that the medical field is just amazing sometimes! It seemed like we could see everything on the baby through that camera. Every time I look at an ultrasound and see all of the many parts that have to come together perfectly, it makes me wonder how anyone could not believe in God and that we came from single-celled organisms instead...We are so complex, and I don't see how people could do that by themselves over and over again.

Alia said that the doctor said that the baby is weighing in at about 12 oz. It was not fully cooperating while trying to see the head while we watched, but it did look like it would have Nick's nose. I think that they go in again for another ultrasound in a month or so, so maybe little boy whatsit will cooperate this time?!

Nick & Alia,

To sit back and watch the two of you become parents is truly an amazing thing to watch. You are both so loving and caring that this baby has no choice but to grow up in a nurturing home. We love you both (& little baby whatsit...now known as a boy instead of whatsit). Please know that you both inspire us to be better people, and that you are two of the best people that we know. We are grateful to God that he has placed you in our lives, and we can't wait to see what He has in store for your amazing family! You will make amazing parents because of your love and devotion to keeping God's word and raising a child with His principles in mind. Just remember that even in the hard times we are there for you, just as we know you are there for us no matter what. Thank you for everything, and we are so excited for you both!

PS~We can't wait to meet our first nephew!!!

Love,
Chris, Kimmie, & Evan
