3 Weeks Old Already!

Wow! Evan is now 3 weeks and 1 day old! We can't believe it! Before you have a baby, you think of them as so small and fragile (which they are). However, they grow up SO FAST! He is only 3 weeks old, and already he is starting to pick his head up and push off of my arm with his feet. I think he'll be walking by them time he's 2 months old!

We are both excited about the fact that school is almost out so that we can all be together as a family and spend more time together. Chris and I are just really happy about getting to spend this time getting to know Evan's personality, which grows everyday! Like when he toots in his diaper (loudly!!) and then smiles...we know he is Chris' son just because of that! Or how he likes to have his hands in front of his face all the time to feel comfortable. It is just great getting to see what God has in store for us and our little one!
Also, thank you to everyone who has brought us a meal over the past few weeks! Food was the last thing on our minds, and yet it has come in so handy to have it ready and waiting in the fridge. Haha, food is especially important to a breast-feeding mama (I don't know about any of the other ladies who breast-fed, but food is all I think about!).
One last post: This is for me to apologize. I have everyone's thank you card ready from all of the showers thrown for us; I wanted them ready before Evan arrived. Well, I got them all finished and ready, but haven't made it to the post office for stamps, couldn't find some addresses, and now Evan is here and it's the last thing on my mind...you know how the story goes. But I want to officially apologize for taking so long in getting the cards out to everyone. Chris and I REALLY appreciate all that you have done for us, and I hope you will forgive us for taking so long to say thank you.

Pregnancy Reflections, Future Wonderings...

Well, 9 months have come and gone, and we now have a son, Evan Christopher Gonzales (see adorable picture below!). There were some experiences that I could have lived without, like the constant flow of extra saliva in my mouth, and the weird tastes that food would leave. But aside from these small grievances, being pregnant was one of the most exciting and rewarding periods in my life.I will never forget the first time I could feel Evan move. And this was heightened even more by the fact that it could happen at any time-when I was by myself, or talking to someone else, I could feel him move when everyone else was oblivious to that fact. It was a constant reminder that God was performing a miracle right inside of me. I will also never forget the feeling of him not being inside of me anymore. I was taking a shower last night and almost cried (I'm crying even now as I write this...) because I thought I felt him move. That is one of the most awesome feelings in the whole world, and I will only experience it, hopefully, a few times in my life. I have learned to cherish every moment, no matter how small.

Now that he is here, Chris and I are filled with more love than I ever thought a human being capable of. We find ourselves overcome with emotion (happiness, joy, wonderment) with every yawn, opening of his eyes, and yes-even cries. We are now realizing how much responsibility goes along with raising another human being. It is a scary thought to think of my Mom going home in a week and leaving us here....alone! But I know that God would not bring us this adventure without the ability and strength to get us through. (Knowing that helped me get through labor, too!).Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for us through this exciting time in our lives. We can't wait for you all to meet Evan and see the little miracle himself! Haha, now instead of praying for a smooth delivery, please pray that we get some more sleep! Last night was a looonnnnggg one! Bless you all!

Baby Update... 1:30 Thursday Morning

10 cm DILATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baby Update..12:52am, Thursday morning..

It's 12:45am on Thursday morning. Kim is about 5cm dilated and her water broke at about 10pm. At about 11pm, Kim was given an epidural and is coasting. We have a monitor next to the bed and Kim is contracting a lot! I really can't wait to post the pictures on our Picasa. I think the nurses are tired of me taking so many pictures but there are so many memories to capture. We are very blessed to have Kim's mother and sister, my mom, Bobby, Nick and Alia here keeping us company. Please stay posted and continue to pray for us! We might have Baby Evan before sun rise!!

We are going to the Hospital!

Don't worry everybody...we are on our way to the hospital. Kim is actually doing really good. The contractions are a getting closer and stronger and they are starting to hurt. She has now been contracting for almost 5 hours. We are estimating that Evan will be here around 2 or 3 in the morning. He's almost here!!!!

The Baby's Coming!!!

Hey everybody! Kim's water has broken and she is contracting. The contractions are about 7 minutes apart. We will be headed to St. Lukes Hospital before 9:00 tonight. Please keep us in your prayers and I'll do my best to keep you informed.

No Baby, Yet...

I'm sure that those of you who read our blog are curious to see if Evan is here yet...and sadly, he's not. We're on our second day past the due date, and he's still comfortable where he is! Maybe today will be the day, who knows! It is kind of fun waiting and anticipating like this, though! I hope that I am able to call Chris at work with some exciting news and have a bit of drama today! Please continue to pray for us that everything will go smoothly with Evan and his delivery.
Thanks and we'll keep you posted!

Bittersweet...

Today was my last day of school for the year, and I'm not sure that it has hit me yet. I am obviously very excited about what is about to happen in our lives and all of the excitement that is brought with that. However, I didn't think about not seeing co-workers or students again for the entire summer...or not at all...

The kids made me sad today, especially the 5th graders since I won't be their teacher next year. I definitely need to go back and visit once we have the baby so that I can see them all again and show off cute little Evan (oh, you know he'll be cute!). So even though I'm very excited about the fact that instead of going to school on Monday I will possibly have a son to take care of, I can't help but feel sad about not going back at the same time. I'm sure that as soon as we have the baby, all thoughts of school will go flying out the window! (Please pray for my substitute that he would be comfortable taking over my class after TAKS at the end of the school year!).

Meeting Laura & Jenna Bush

We got to "meet" the First Lady and her daughter last night! They were at the Barnes & Noble next to the Woodlands Mall, and we have a friend who was able to get us in! I think it's so neat that we can say we've met them!
In order to get in to this book signing, you had to have a wrist band, of which they only gave out 800 or so (haha, only). My friend at work happened to have 3 of them because there is a Book Fair going on for Spring ISD at this Barnes & Noble over the weekend (by the way, if anyone is reading this & goes to B&N this weekend, ask for a coupon from Spring ISD. If you use this coupon, it will not get you a discount off of your purchase, but B&N will donate 10% of your purchase to the Spring ISD Bookfest in November).

We ended up waiting in line FOREVER (3 1/2 hours), and I was feeling really icky by the time we were finished, but it was worth it! They were both very nice, and both gorgeous (although wearing too much make-up, I thought).

We stopped at Starbucks afterwards to enjoy sitting down after so many hours of standing. Around 8:45, we thought they were getting ready to "move them out," and we thought they would be coming down the stairs right in front of us. We were sitting there with our cameras, and the Secret Service agents were stationed all around the escalators around us. Finally, someone came up and said, "You know their not coming down this way..." Then all of the Service agents left, and we realized that it had all been fake! They are really good! Chris also noticed that they removed the trash cans from all around the store; I guess in case of bombs? Those guys (& girls) are good!

It was definitely an experience that I'm glad that we were able to take advantage of!
